Common causes are a low refrigerant charge from a leak, a dirty filter or coil restricting airflow, a failing fan motor or compressor, or a faulty sensor or control board. Checking the filter is the one thing you can safely do yourself. Anything involving gas or electrics needs a technician.
Most often the condensate drain is blocked or the drain pan is dirty, so water backs up and drips from the indoor unit. If water is dripping near electrics, switch the unit off, then book a visit so the drain can be cleared and the cause found.
Rattling often points to loose panels or a dirty fan. Grinding or squealing can mean a worn fan motor or compressor. If the noise is loud or new, turn the unit off, because running it can make the damage worse.
In the UAE's heat and dust, servicing at least twice a year is a sensible rule: once before summer and once after. Units that run all day, such as in shops and offices, may need more. We do one-off visits and annual or quarterly plans.
